A deliciously warm and savory Turkey Melt with Cheddar sandwich featuring layers of honey mustard, white cheddar, deli turkey, fresh tomato, baby spinach, and crispy bacon, toasted to perfection in a skillet.

Ingredients

Scale

Bread & Spreads

  • 4 slices sourdough or thick, crusty bread
  • 2 tablespoons honey mustard
  • 2 tablespoons butter, softened

Cheese & Meat

  • 2 slices white cheddar cheese
  • 4 slices deli turkey
  • 4 strips cooked bacon

Vegetables

  • Thin slices from 1 medium red tomato
  • ½ cup fresh baby spinach

Instructions

  1. Prepare Bread and Spread: Place 4 slices of sourdough bread on a flat surface. Divide 2 tablespoons honey mustard into four ½-tablespoon parts and spread evenly on the top side of each bread slice.
  2. Add Cheese: Cut 2 slices of white cheddar cheese in half, creating 4 smaller slices. Place one half-slice of cheese on each honey mustard-spread bread slice.
  3. Layer Turkey: Divide 4 slices deli turkey into two slices per sandwich. Place turkey slices on top of cheese-covered bread.
  4. Add Vegetables: Divide ½ cup fresh baby spinach into ¼ cup portions per sandwich. Layer thin tomato slices and ¼ cup baby spinach atop the turkey layer.
  5. Add Bacon and Cheese: Divide 4 strips cooked bacon into two strips per sandwich. Place bacon on remaining cheese-topped bread slices to form the top sandwich halves.
  6. Assemble Sandwich: Close each sandwich by placing the bacon-topped bread halves (bacon side down) on top of turkey-topped halves. Each sandwich should have layers of bread, honey mustard, cheese, turkey, tomato, spinach, bacon, cheese, honey mustard, and bread in that order.
  7. Butter the Outside: Divide the softened 2 tablespoons butter into four ½-tablespoon portions. Spread butter evenly on the outside surfaces of each sandwich slice (all four sides) to prepare for toasting.
  8. Toast Sandwich: Heat a large skillet over medium heat on the stovetop. Once warm, place the assembled sandwiches flat in the skillet.
  9. Toast Bottom Side: Cook the bottom slice of bread for 3 to 4 minutes until golden brown and crisp.
  10. Flip and Toast Other Side: Carefully flip the sandwiches over and toast the other side for another 3 to 4 minutes, until the cheese melts and sandwich fillings are warmed through.
  11. Serve: Remove sandwiches from skillet and transfer to serving plates. Serve warm with your choice of sides.

Notes

  • Use thick, crusty bread like sourdough for best texture and to hold fillings well.
  • Adjust honey mustard quantity to taste for sweeter or tangier flavor.
  • Ensure butter is softened for easy spreading on bread exterior.
  • Cook bacon ahead for convenience and crispness.
  • To check if cheese is melted, gently press on sandwich after flipping; cheese should feel soft and melty.
  • If skillet starts to brown sandwich too quickly, reduce heat to medium-low to avoid burning.
