Ingredients

Scale

Cookies

  • 20 Oreo cookies

Chocolate Coating

  • 12 ounces semisweet chocolate
  • 23 drops crème de menthe oil flavoring (or peppermint oil flavoring)

Instructions

  1. Separate Oreos: Carefully separate the Oreo cookies and scrape off the cream filling. You can discard the filling or enjoy it separately.
  2. Melt Chocolate: In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the semisweet chocolate at 50% power, stirring every 30 to 60 seconds until smooth. Alternatively, melt the chocolate using a double boiler on the stovetop.
  3. Add Mint Flavoring: Stir 2 to 3 drops of crème de menthe or peppermint oil flavoring into the melted chocolate until fully combined.
  4. Coat the Wafers: Rest one Oreo wafer on the tines of a fork and dip it into the melted chocolate, making sure it is completely coated.
  5. Drain Excess Chocolate: Tap the fork on the side of the bowl to let excess chocolate drip back into the bowl. Place the coated wafer onto a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  6. Repeat and Set: Continue coating the remaining Oreo wafers following the same process. Once all are coated, refrigerate the baking sheet until the chocolate is completely set, about 10-15 minutes.

Notes

  • Use high-quality semisweet chocolate for best flavor and smooth coating.
  • If crème de menthe oil is unavailable, peppermint oil flavoring works as a perfect substitute.
  • Make sure to tap off excess chocolate to avoid thick coatings and uneven drying.
  • Store finished Thin Mints in an airtight container in the refrigerator to maintain freshness.
  • This recipe is best served chilled but can be left at room temperature for a short while before serving.
