Ground Beef Mixture
- 1 1/2 pounds ground beef (85/15)
- 1/2 yellow onion, finely chopped
- 1/4 cup hamburger pickles, chopped
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1/4 teaspoon coarse ground pepper
- 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
McDonald’s Secret Sauce
- 1 cup mayonnaise
- 1/4 cup French dressing
- 2 tablespoons sweet relish
- 1 tablespoon ketchup
- 1 teaspoon white vinegar
- 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
To Assemble (Double Decker)
- 8 hamburger buns (with seeds)
- 2 cups iceberg lettuce, shredded
- 12 hamburger pickle chips
- 4 slices American cheese
- Additional sauce, optional
- Brown the Beef: Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and partially brown the ground beef for 3-4 minutes. This starts the cooking process and prepares the meat for seasoning.
- Add Seasonings and Onions: Add the finely chopped yellow onion, kosher salt, coarse ground pepper, and Worcestershire sauce to the skillet with the beef. Stir to combine and continue cooking until the beef is fully browned, about 3-4 more minutes.
- Stir in Pickles: Once the beef is fully cooked, stir in the chopped hamburger pickles carefully to distribute the flavor.
- Prepare the Sauce: In a medium bowl, combine mayonnaise, French dressing, sweet relish, ketchup, white vinegar, onion powder, and salt. Stir thoroughly to create the signature Big Mac secret sauce.
- Add Secret Sauce to Beef: Pour 1 cup of the secret sauce into the skillet with the cooked beef mixture and stir well. Cook everything together for an additional 1 minute to meld the flavors.
- Assemble the Big Mac: To build the double-decker burger, start with the bottom bun, spread some of the reserved secret sauce, add shredded iceberg lettuce, a slice of American cheese, a portion of the beef mixture, pickles, then the middle bun. Repeat the layers again with sauce, lettuce, beef, pickles, and finish with the top bun. Additional sauce can be added as desired.
Notes
- Use 85/15 ground beef to ensure flavorful but juicy patties.
- The secret sauce can be made ahead and refrigerated for better flavor melding.
- For perfect layering, gently toast the buns if desired to add texture and prevent sogginess.
- Do not overmix the beef to maintain a tender texture.
