Ingredients

Scale

Hash Brown Crust

  • 4 cups frozen shredded hash browns, thawed and squeezed dry
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper

Toppings

  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup cooked and crumbled breakfast sausage or bacon (optional; use plant-based for vegetarian)
  • 1/2 cup diced bell pepper
  • 1/4 cup chopped green onions

Eggs and Seasoning

  • 4 large eggs
  • 1/4 teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare Pan: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Lightly grease a 12-inch ovenproof skillet or pizza pan to prevent sticking.
  2. Prepare Hash Brown Crust Base: In a large mixing bowl, combine the thawed and squeezed dry hash browns with melted butter, salt, and black pepper. Mix until the hash browns are evenly coated and moistened.
  3. Form Crust: Press the hash brown mixture evenly into the prepared skillet or pizza pan. Shape it with slightly raised edges to help hold toppings and eggs.
  4. Bake Hash Brown Crust: Place the skillet in the preheated oven and bake for 20 to 25 minutes until the crust turns golden brown and develops a crispy texture.
  5. Add Toppings: Remove the crust from the oven. Evenly sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over the crust. Add crumbled cooked breakfast sausage or bacon if using, followed by diced bell pepper and chopped green onions.
  6. Create Wells for Eggs: Use the back of a spoon to gently make four shallow wells in the toppings enough to hold one egg each.
  7. Add Eggs: Carefully crack one large egg into each well formed in the toppings. Sprinkle the eggs with paprika, salt, and pepper according to your taste.
  8. Bake Until Eggs are Set: Return the skillet to the oven and bake an additional 10 to 12 minutes, or until the egg whites are set and the yolks are cooked to your preference.
  9. Cool and Serve: Let the breakfast pizza cool for about 3 minutes before slicing into portions. Serve warm for a delicious breakfast experience.

Notes

  • For a vegetarian version, substitute breakfast sausage or bacon with plant-based alternatives or omit entirely.
  • Make sure to squeeze out excess moisture from thawed hash browns to achieve a crispy crust.
  • Adjust egg baking time based on how runny or firm you prefer your yolks.
  • You can customize toppings by adding mushrooms, tomatoes, or spinach for variety.
  • Use a cast iron skillet if possible for best crust crispiness.
