Ingredients

Scale

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups mashed ripe bananas (about 3 medium)
  • 1 cup pumpkin puree
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Optional Add-ins

  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven and Prepare Pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×5 inch loaf pan to prevent sticking.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, salt, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, and ground cloves until evenly combined.
  3. Combine Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, mash the ripe bananas until smooth. Add the pumpkin puree, melted unsalted butter, granulated sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract. Mix thoroughly until the mixture is well combined.
  4. Combine Wet and Dry Mixtures: Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients bowl. Stir gently until just combined to avoid overmixing, which can toughen the bread. If you’re using the optional walnuts or chocolate chips, fold them in carefully at this stage.
  5. Fill Loaf Pan: Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan, spreading it evenly.
  6. Bake Bread: Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for 55-65 minutes. Check doneness by inserting a toothpick into the center—it should come out clean or with just a few moist crumbs.
  7. Cool the Bread: Remove the bread from the oven and let it cool in the pan for about 10 minutes. Then, transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • Do not overmix the batter to keep the bread tender.
  • Ripe bananas with brown spots give the best sweetness and flavor.
  • Pumpkin puree can be canned or homemade—ensure it’s not pumpkin pie filling.
  • Toasting the chopped walnuts before adding enhances their flavor.
  • Store the bread wrapped tightly at room temperature for up to 3 days or refrigerate for up to a week.
  • This bread can also be sliced and frozen for longer storage.
